In the late 1950s, Buffalo Forge Company published a pump manual that listed in great detail the types of packing used. Most of the packing contained asbestos. Some of the information that this book provides:
- White Braided Asbestos was used for General Service and Water.
- Several types of dry plastic packing contained asbestos.
- African Blue Asbestos packing was used for many kinds of acids.
- Teflon suspensoid outside lubricated blue asbestos used for mild acids.
- Teflon suspensoid all lubricated blue asbestos for alakli solutions and some inorganic acids.
