Researching Asbestos Exposure in Paper & Pulp Mills

Occupational exposure to Asbestos is a leading cause of mesothelioma and asbestosis.

The paper industry in the United States is large, employing several hundred thousands of workers in paper manufacturing factories.

Mesothelioma may not appear until 20 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos. This necessitates the research of old books, catalogs, and technical documentation to determine exactly how asbestos products were used.

We have located a 1940s technical book on pulp and paper making, which provides the following information about the use of asbestos:
  • Asbestos Roofing Papers
  • Asbestos Papers are described
  • A Typical Horizontal Tube Evaporator contains asbestos packing

  1. It would be interesting to see data on how many workers from the paper industry in the U.S during this time period developed mesothelioma or asbestosis. Do you have or know of any literature on these stats?
